STRUCTURED CABLING SYSTEMS (SCS) A Structured Cabling System is the implementation of data and voice network infrastructure for an enterprise. Structured cabling is the standard for networks installed in America & Europe today. Structured cabling has it own set of international standards defined by the Electronic Industry, and Telecommunications Industry Associations. SCS must be constructed around internationally recognized EIA/TIA 568A standard for commercial Building Telecommunications Wiring. It should also meet the requirements for category 5 channel performance as specified within the EIA/TIA SP2840A document and ISO/IEC-11801 tome. Structured cabling designs allows for the implementation of networks which can be used by all platforms & protocol transports - in any mix that a client might want to use. For instance, Webber Networks has installed systems which allow users to access two different hosts (for instance. NetWare and UNIX) simultaneously from a single PC. In fact, information from one system can be captured and used in the other.
There is a lot at stake in today's environment. The enterprise network must be capable of increasing the overall productivity of the company's staff and resources. This task can be accomplished by maximizing the availability of applications while minimizing the total long term cost of ownership. This means providing users with continual access to a flexible, reliable network. It also means providing information systems staff with the tools and information to maintain the network. There are six key criteria that form the basis of a proper enterprise network architecture: 1) Customer application specific: Meets the current and planned use of the organizations computer and communication applications 2) Scaleable: Easily accommodate modification, enhancements and rapid growth 3) Reliable: Deliver adequate up-time for critical applications used by the organization 4) Easy to manage: Provide tools and resources support, monitoring and problem resolution 5) Investment protection: Preserve prior investment by minimizing obsolescence 6) Cost effective: The business benefits must justify the total long term cost of the network. Building and maintaining an enterprise network that provides real organizational benefit it is a three step process. The first step is to do a review of the organizations strategy and plan, and design a network architecture and plan (if appropriate). The second step is to implement an enterprise network that meets basic organizational information and communication flow as well as strategic organizational goals. Step three is to provide on going training, technical support, network management and enhancements to take strategic advantage of communication and information flow. Webber Networks strongly recommends that organizations wishing to proceed with a major information technology (IT) project, even one still at the preliminary strategy stage, seriously consider supplementing their own internal resources with the services of an independent external consultant. Webber Networks provides advanced level consulting services to clients covering the investigation, analysis and planning of enterprise wide networking and communication. Many organizations are running mission-critical applications on legacy systems in their data centres but want to evolve their networks to integrate client/server on LAN-based applications. Webber Networks ensures that its designs account for current mainframe, mini and PC systems, as well as future system plans. The end result is a comprehensive infrastructure plan that is scaleable and flexible in terms of growth, enhancements and new technologies. Group and Database Applications: Webber Networks specializes in the development of custom Groupware and database applications that strengthen the business processes of your company. As a developer of Microsoft Solutions we can provide you with the right productivity solution for your organization whether you are 10 in a single location or 10,000 spread around the country. We maintain special expertise in the integration of visual studio database services into groupware environments. PROJECT MANAGEMENT Webber Networks will always advise that a project manager be involved as early in the project life cycle as possible. This is to bring to the table the wealth of knowledge and experience that our Project Managers have, to aid the customer with the planning and costing of the project and to advise on common pitfalls and problems of that particular project. During this phase a Project Definition Report (PDR) will be written by the Project Manager, detailing the Scope, Objectives, Constraints and Deliverables for the project. This document will act as a corner stone for the project - a point of referral for use during the implementation and at post-implementation. At times the customer will have already planned, costed and piloted the project, and is only looking for a Project Manager to manage the physical implementation of the project. Webber Networks provides Implementation Managers for this purpose - they will normally reside on the customer site for the duration of the implementation, to task manage the implementation to the customers specification. Again, before work commences a PDR will be written to cement the terms of reference for the project. SUPPORT AND MAINTENANCE Webber Networks support and maintenance services are available nationwide. A full range of support services are offered to the client, from a Telephone Hotline for day-to-day operational difficulties to the provision of on-site repair services. A Maintenance Contract is a valuable and cost effective insurance against the inconvenience and expense of lost productivity and repair costs. Our rapid response policy will bring a qualified engineer to your assistance, and if the equipment cannot be repaired on the spot, a replacement is often provided to minimize disruption. |
